The Deeply Human podcast analyzes many everyday human experiences. The show covers dating, death, dance, and dress codes. There's an episode on love, and, to keep things fair and balanced, one on hate. Some shows skew light and fun. Others turn darker and a bit gloomy. Regardless, host Dessa (née Margret Wander) always manages to spice up the proceedings with charisma and charm.
Deeply Human host Dessa is content to label herself a musician. But she's plenty more than that. She's steered her solo career in hip-hop and is a longtime member of the hip-hop group (and record label) Doomtree. And she doesn't only rap. She founded a mostly female acapella group, the Boy Sopranos. She also records with her hometown Minnesota Orchestral.
Dessa is also a published fiction and creative nonfiction writer and poet as well. She's taught, lectured, and helmed a record label. She's given a popular TED Talk about falling out of love. She's got her own ice cream, lipstick, and bourbon. And as of early 2021, she hosts her own podcast. This background helps make her a fascinating host for this podcast.
The host offered a playful warning in the first trailer for Deeply Human. “There will be romance and flesh wounds,” Dessa teased. “Contagious laughter and chilling hallucinations.” But in the end, it seems, the goal of the show is to be helpful. To encourage listeners to examine life's idiosyncrasies in more detail than ever. New Deeply Human episodes come out on a periodic basis.
